What is the proper way of defrosting or thawing the frozen fish and meat pls advice thankx?

u have to defrost a salmon for tonight that would be ready for tomorrow n serve. can pls advice the right way for overnight., also within a day that it would be needed. What is the proper way of defrosting or thawing the frozen fish and meat pls advice thankx?
If you are going to thaw it for dinner tomorrow, place it in a container in the fridge. It will be fine to eat tomorrow. If you took it out at say 2pm and wanted to eat it the same day, place it (still in the wrapper) in a bowl of cold water in the sink. Change the water every half hour or so. DO NOT thaw it in hot or warm water....that will cook the fish. What is the proper way of defrosting or thawing the frozen fish and meat pls advice thankx?
there are three acceptable methods to defrost food safely. the most preferable being in the fridge overnight, next is under RUNNING tap water in a container that will drain, the third is in the microwave, but ONLY if you are going to cook the food immediately.
my mom just leaves it out. she sticks it in room temp water and goes to do something else. i know bacteria could grow, but as long as you cook it thoroughly, it should kill the bacteria.
