In George Washington's farewell Address, George Washington warned the new nation against political parties, sectionalism, and involvement in European rivalries. What I'm trying to figure out is how well his advice was taken in each area. How was George Washington's advice taken in all of the different areas?
WOW!! I'm just read an exert from it and i had to answer some questions about it. Washington definitely warned us about the 'spirit of parties' but I don't think it was actually listened to. Americans listened more closely to his advice on foreign policy when he said to remain neutral. Alexander Hamilton wanted to stay out of Europe's affairs, but Thomas Jefferson thought America should help with the French Revolution (Here we see that the parties split. Federalists vs. Democratic Republicans.)
