I live in NM and just laid new sod. I am getting different advice on the proper watering. Can anyone help?

some say 6am and 6pm for 30 min but this seems to be to much standing water. Some say not at night at all, only morning and afternoon.I live in NM and just laid new sod. I am getting different advice on the proper watering. Can anyone help?
The amount of water is less important than frequency. Basically, you want to water it as often as you need to assure it never goes dry. Young sod roots don't extend past the thin layer of soil and can't draw water from deeper in the ground.

Poke your fingers down between the blades and into the soil to see where you stand. Check it three or four times a day and you'll get a natural rhythm for watering.

There are some who say to never water at night as this can cause mold to form on the grass, but I don't think you'll be at serious risk for this in the blazing NM sun.
